Sarah Huckabee Sanders has lied to Americans so many times we’ve lost count. Unfortunately for Donald Trump, despite her willingness to lie to the public, she was apparently not willing to lie to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. In the redacted Mueller report that was released this week, Sanders confessed that she made false statements to the press in regards to Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey.
After Trump fired Comey, Sanders said that she had heard from “countless” people in the FBI that no one had confidence in Comey any longer. This was just a blatant attempt to cover up the real reason Trump fired him. It didn’t work since everyone knew it had more to do with the Trump-Russia investigation.
Sanders admitted that no one had said that to her, instead suggesting it was just a “slip of the tongue” that she had in the “heat of the moment.” Let’s call it what it is, she lied. She lied to cover up felony obstruction of justice by the President of the United States.
I’m sure nothing will come of this given that she hasn’t been criminally indicted before now. She could resign, but this isn’t really that shocking so we don’t expect that. Trump might fire her, however, since she cooperated with Mueller. It will be interesting to see what happens next and what other facts we uncover in the report.
