Michael Cohen was set to publicly testify before Congress about Trump’s criminal history. There had already been threats made regarding Cohen’s family to try and get him not to testify. Nancy Pelosi put an end to that by saying she step in if it doesn’t stop, so Trump has fallen silent about the matter. However, one of Trump’s henchmen took on the witness tampering himself against Cohen.
Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz tweeted “Hey @MichaelCohen212 – Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot.”
This tweet is a felony as it is a blatant example of witness tampering. There’s no proof right now that any of that tweet is true, but regardless Gaetz has made a big mistake.
Members of Congress can’t hide so easily from witness tampering. Don’t be surprised if Nancy Pelosi is preparing to make a referral against Gaetz, and Mueller is probably taking notice as well.
Clearly, Gaetz thought he could do what Trump was doing and remain untouched when witness tampering, but he’s about to learn the hard way that when you lay with dogs, you often get fleas.
Oh, and just FYI, this is one of the fine, upstanding Representatives working in Congress:
